Retired Soldiers Protest Over Pension Adjustment

Retired Soldiers Protest Over Pension Adjustment

Retired military personnel gathered in Abuja on Wednesday, August 19, to demand the implementation of consequential adjustments to their pensions following salary reviews for serving military personnel.

The ex-servicemen arrived at the Ministry of Defence with their grievances, seeking answers from the authorities. However, their attempt to converge in front of the ministry was met with a heavy security presence, as soldiers and police officers blocked access to the premises.

Unable to reach the ministry’s entrance, the retirees addressed journalists and expressed their frustration over the delay in implementing the pension adjustments. They maintained that after decades of service to Nigeria, they deserve to receive the benefits due to them.

The protest has once again raised concerns about the welfare of retired military personnel who dedicated years of their lives to protecting the country.

The Centre for Community and Oceanic Law calls on the relevant authorities to listen to the concerns of the retired soldiers, engage with them and urgently work towards addressing their demands.

Those who served and protected Nigeria deserve dignity, fairness and respect in retirement.
