ISA Observer Status

International Seabed Authority

In October 2024, the Assembly of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) granted CFComLaw Observer Status — making CFComLaw the first West African civil society organisation to hold a seat in the governance proceedings of the global body responsible for regulating the international seabed Area under UNCLOS.

As an NGO Observer, CFComLaw may attend public meetings of the ISA Assembly, make oral statements, submit written statements, and participate in deliberations of the ISA Council on questions affecting its activities.

United Nations

CFComLaw is listed in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) Civil Society Database, and the Centre’s SDG initiative is registered with the United Nations — reflecting CFComLaw’s contribution to the global Sustainable Development Goals agenda, particularly SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).

Building Regional Academic Reach

University of Benin — Memorandum of Understanding

CFComLaw has signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Benin, Nigeria — one of the country's leading law faculties — establishing it as CFComLaw's primary academic hub. This partnership enables joint research activities, access to academic expertise, student engagement through moot courts and workshops, and collaboration on the Journal of Community and International Law.

CFComLaw is actively developing additional MoUs with universities across other ECOWAS member states to deepen its regional academic reach.
